After Bolsonaro, former president Lula may visit Manaus in October of this year

MANAUS (AM) – Former President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva (PT) should visit Manaus, in October this year, to define a party candidate for the government of Amazonas for the elections 2022, according to allies of the petist behind the scenes of politics. The visit comes after the passage “lightning” the current ruler of the country, Jair Bolsonaro (without party), who was in the Amazon metropolis in 18 of August to inaugurate apartments, whose “draw” of the units benefited relatives of the mayor of the city, David Almeida (Avante).

The visit of the former president to the city is seen as a strategy to manage to defeat Bolsonaro in the capital, in a possible confrontation in the elections next year, since the current ruler of the country won the presidential race in the state, in 2018, with significant victories in the cities of Manaus (65.72% of the valid votes), Apuí (51.44%) and Guajará (50.48%).

The days on which the petista will be in Manaus have not yet been confirmed, nor announced by the acronym. On Friday, 20, former Senator Vanessa Grazziotin (PCdoB) told the website O PODER that after fulfilling the extensive political agenda that began this week by the states of the Northeast, Lula will be visiting the North of Brazil.

“After the Northeast, Lula will come to the North. By the end of the month I will meet with him for an event and I will know the concrete date”, said Vanessa Grazziotin, speaking to the site O PODER. This would be the first time the former president to the Amazon, since he fulfilled the mandate in the Presidency of the Republic (2003 to 2010) and after his arrest as a result of Lava Jato.

On Saturday, 21, former President Lula visited the Port of Pecém, in São Gonçalo do Amarante, in the Fortaleza metropolitan area, in Ceará. The state is considered to be the “electoral stronghold” of Ciro Gomes (PDT), eventual opponent of the PT and Bolsonaro in the 2022 presidential election.

This week, besides Ceará, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva also visited the states of Pernambuco, Piauí, and Maranhão. According to Lula, he has not yet decided whether he will be a presidential candidate next year and is traveling around Brazil, talking to politicians, to make a decision.

In social networks, Lula said this Saturday, 21, that “he has never seen Brazil in the situation it is in” and that it is possible to have another country, with more jobs, development and opportunity.

“I have never seen Brazil in the situation it is in. I never saw the climate of discord and of hatred established in Brazilian society. I decided to travel the country, starting with my beloved Northeast, because I want to talk to society, with the press, I want to hear the people”, Lula wrote in a post on Twitter.
