MANAUS – The governor of Amazonas, Wilson Lima (PSC), announced on the morning of Tuesday, 11, that the new points of vaccination against Covid-19 will be in supermarkets in Manaus. The strategy starts on Thursday, 13, and is part of the action to expand vaccination in the Amazon capital at this time when the record of new cases of the disease, and also of infection by the Ômicron variant, has increased daily.

“Starting Thursday, we will put vaccination points in supermarkets. We already have 10 supermarkets that have made themselves available for the teams from both the city and the state to be there. They will work from 9am to 8pm, so that we can reach as many people as possible”, emphasized the governor.

The Amazonas reached on Monday, 10, the total of 22 cases of Omicron, considered the most transmissible variant of Covid-19. The increase of those infected by the new strain comes in the midst of a large number of people who have not taken any dose of the vaccine. In the state, there are more than 100 thousand people. Half a million Amazonians have not returned to take the second dose of the immunizer.

“There is still a very big concern in terms of getting everyone vaccinated. We are in a very delicate period, which is the rainy season, in which the cases of respiratory syndromes increase significantly. We have a significant increase in the demand of people presenting Influenza, H3N2, Covid-19. We don’t have so many worsening situations, but it is a situation that worries us”, he also pointed out.

The addresses of the supermarkets that will be new vaccination points have not been released yet.

Community Transmission

In a press conference at the Family Living Center (CECF) Padre Pedro Vignola, Cidade Nova neighborhood, north of Manaus, the state secretary of Health, Anoar Samad, spoke about the possible risks of community transmission of Omicron variant in the state. The community or local transmission is defined when the contagion between people occurs in the same territory, without travel history or without being able to define the origin of the transmission.

“I said that we could delay the arrival of Omicron, but never prevent it. I have no doubts or proven data, but in the next data we will have a community transmission”, said the secretary.

Amazonas Vaccine Truck

Anoar Samad and Wilson Lima visited the Amazon Vaccine Van at the Padre Pedro Vignola State Center for Family Coexistence (CECF). There have already been 6,451 doses applied in the itinerant vaccination unit since the last 5th.

More than 1,000 doses are applied every day, and the highest number of applications (1,573) was recorded on Saturday the 8th. The Amazon Vaccine Truck is a strategy of the Government of Amazonas, through the State Department of Health (SES-AM), to take the vaccine ever closer to the population.
