MANAUS – The governor of Amazonas, Wilson Lima (PSC), He celebrated in a video posted on social networks on Thursday, 23, the learnings of 2021 and, also, apologized for failures to recognize that trusted, mistakenly, the “old chieftains” who ruled the state for 40 years. On the eve of entering his last year as chief executive, Lima celebrated unity, advances in science, and programs that have benefited the population.
“At the beginning of the government, I trusted those who didn’t deserve it. I thought that only with good will could we solve the lives of the people who suffered the most,” recalls the governor. “I imagined that the caciques that governed for 40 years would not be capable of sabotaging my government, just because they don’t accept a simple man as governor of Amazonas.
The governor’s speech refers to the actions of former governors Amazonino Mendes and Eduardo Braga, who, aiming at next year’s election, are articulating themselves in several episodes to “knock” Lima out of office. More than ten requests for impeachment against the governor have already been filed, “led” by deputies allied to the group of former governors.
Wilson Lima also remembers the health crisis faced in the state, especially the lack of oxygen, when several health units in Amazonas lacked the input in January this year. “I learned, facing the biggest health crisis of the last 100 years, that union is what makes us overcome challenges”, Lima points out.
With the financial difficulties faced by families in the pandemic, the state government implemented the Permanent Aid, a continuous payment of R$150 that benefits 300 thousand families in Amazonas, being 142 thousand in the countryside. The benefit is just one of Lima’s achievements. “That the governments are fundamental to take care of those who need it most, that what was temporary has to be permanent in order to never lack food on people’s tables,” he says.
Advances in science to fight the pandemic
To conclude, Lima still recalls the union for the advancement of science, especially related to vaccination in the state. In 2021, the Government of Amazonas launched the “Vaccine Amazonas”, an immunization campaign to advance with the vaccination coverage. Mutirões were held in the capital of Amazonas in municipalities in the metropolitan region of the city.
“When everyone unites around science who wins is life. I learned that no matter the distance, learning will always be the path to a better life, and that solidarity is fundamental for us to start over. Nothing will overcome the pain of losing a family member or friend, but we can all look back and see what we learned from all this,” adds Wilson Lima.
“And don’t forget, get vaccinated, wear a mask, and enjoy life with the ones you love the most,” concludes the governor of Amazonas.
