MANAUS (AM) – The wrestling athlete from Amazonas, Murilo Diamante, 13, stated to CENARIUM on Wednesday, 19, that he balances his sports training with his studies and is now preparing to compete in the 2025 Pan-American Championship. The teenager, who lives in Manaus, secured a spot in the international competition after winning the Brazilian Interclub Wrestling Championship last Saturday, 15, in Niterói (RJ).

Murilo Diamante will represent Brazil in the U15 category of the Pan-American Championship, competing against athletes from other countries participating in the international event. The sports competition is scheduled to take place in May in Guatemala City, the capital of the country with the same name.

Murilo’s interest in the sport began when the high-performance unit “Studio Masterfrigo” introduced wrestling training at the gym where he was already practicing Jiu-Jitsu in Manaus, about six months ago. He started training nine years ago and quickly stood out in freestyle wrestling. “I started in sports at the age of 4, and my interest in wrestling grew when Masterfrigo made the discipline available. I started training and stood out,” he said.

Currently, Murilo trains wrestling twice a week, on Tuesdays and Thursdays. On these days, since he has two training sessions—Jiu-Jitsu and wrestling—he trains from 1 PM to 8 PM. On other days, training takes place from 3 PM to 8 PM. In addition to training, the athlete explained that he sets aside time for warm-ups.

“I study in the morning [at a school located in the Japiim neighborhood]. My training routine, on Tuesdays and Thursdays, starts at 1 PM with physical preparation. On Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, it starts at 3 PM and goes until 8 PM. My priority is my studies, but I manage to balance them with training,” the athlete stated.

Victory in Competition

During the Brazilian championship held last Saturday, 15, the athlete from Amazonas secured victory in three consecutive matches. Two of them were won by technical superiority, and in the last one, he used the “touch” technique. After qualifying for the international championship, Murilo expressed gratitude to his coach, Anderson Alves, and his family, whom he described as his driving force.

“I am very happy to have become the Brazilian wrestling champion. I admit I was a little nervous before the match, but I outperformed my opponents. With the support of my coach Anderson Alves and my training friends, I made it this far. I am immensely grateful to my family, which is my fuel. This was my debut in the sport, and I am very happy with my result,” said Murilo.
