MANAUS (AM) – The autopsy report indicates that Brazilian tourist Juliana Marins died 20 minutes after the fall, several hours before her body was recovered on Wednesday, the 25th. Still according to the report, the cause of death was blunt force trauma resulting in damage to internal organs and hemorrhage. The information was released this Friday, the 27th.

The possibility of hypothermia was ruled out by the medical examiners. According to the doctors, the nature of the injuries and the large amount of bleeding found leaves no doubt about the cause of Juliana’s death. Her body was recovered four days after the fall. Volunteers mobilized to rescue the victim, who was in a hard-to-reach area.

“We found scratches and abrasions, as well as fractures to the chest, shoulder, spine, and thigh. These bone fractures caused internal organ damage and bleeding. The victim sustained injuries due to the violence of the fall and fractures to several parts of the body. The main cause of death was injuries to the rib cage and back,” said forensic expert Ida Bagus Alit to the local press.

The case

The tragedy began on Friday, the 20th, after Juliana fell during a hike to reach the summit of the volcano on the island of Lombok. According to the family, she had said she was tired during the three-day trek, and the guide allegedly told her to rest while the group continued on. Alone, the Brazilian woman is believed to have fallen in a steep, hard-to-access area.

Only on Monday, the 23rd, was Juliana located with the help of a thermal drone. She was trapped on a rocky cliff and visually immobile, according to the park management where the trail is located. The area was difficult to reach for both climbers and helicopters, and the search efforts were repeatedly halted due to bad weather.

It was only on Tuesday, the 24th, that a rescuer managed to reach her, but the Brazilian woman had already died. After the announcement, the family spoke out via Instagram, confirming her death. In a statement, the family accused the rescue team of negligence.

“Juliana was the victim of serious negligence on the part of the rescue team. If the team had reached her within the estimated 7-hour window, Juliana would still be alive. Juliana deserved so much more! Now, we will pursue justice for her, because that is what she deserves! Don’t give up on Juliana!”
