MANAUS (AM) – Former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL) stated, during a conversation with allies in Angra dos Reis (RJ) on Thursday, the 6th, that women affiliated with the PT, the rival party, are “ugly” and “unf***able.” The statement was recorded on video and published on Instagram by the former leader’s son, Jair Renan Bolsonaro, in an “edit” – a short, edited video format.
“You can see, there are no beautiful women in the PT. Only ugly ones. Sometimes, I’m at the airport and someone shouts at me. I look at her face and think: ‘Dear God, unf***able,’” Bolsonaro said in the recording.
In the video, the former president appears alongside supporters and allies who spent Carnival with him in Angra dos Reis, where he owns a holiday home. Among those present was federal deputy Hélio Negão (PL-RJ).
Remarks about Maria do Rosário
While still a federal deputy, Bolsonaro once stated that he would not rape federal deputy Maria do Rosário (PT/RS) because she “did not deserve it” and was “too ugly.” The case was taken to the Supreme Federal Court (STF) due to the former president’s special legal status, but the Federal District Court dismissed the case in 2023.
On 9 December 2014, during a speech in the plenary of the Chamber of Deputies, Bolsonaro said he would not rape Maria do Rosário because “she did not deserve it,” in a comment about his colleague’s appearance. The next day, the then-MP repeated the statement in an interview with the newspaper Zero Hora. Subsequently, the deputy sued Bolsonaro.
The former president faced accusations in the STF, but the case was suspended after he took office in 2019. With the end of his mandate and the loss of his special legal status, the Supreme Court ruled that the case should proceed in the first instance of the Federal District Court.
Bolsonaro’s defence argued that the dispute between Maria do Rosário and Bolsonaro took place within Congress and should be protected under the constitutional rule of parliamentary immunity, which prevents criminal charges for statements made in office. In July 2023, the Federal District Court dismissed the case.
