MANAUS (AM) – The embankment that provides access to the ferry at the Rio Curuçá crossing on BR-319 — where a bridge collapsed almost three years ago and has not yet been rebuilt — gave way on Saturday, the 31st, and remains closed this Monday, the 2nd, according to the Federal Highway Police (PRF). The interruption of the crossing leaves the population and surrounding communities completely isolated, causing kilometers-long traffic jams.
The collapse occurred at KM 24 of the highway that connects Porto Velho (RO) to Manaus (AM). According to the PRF, the road remains “completely closed, but the responsible agencies are working to restore the crossing.” The agency recommends avoiding the route and advises the public to seek alternative paths if possible. There is still no forecast for when the situation will be normalized.
In a statement, Dnit informed that departmental teams have been mobilized and working since the morning of this Sunday, the 1st, aiming to restore traffic by the end of this Monday. The agency asked for users’ understanding and emphasized that new information will be released as soon as updates on traffic conditions are available.
