Brazilian Government allocates 45,000 scholarships to students from the Amazon

BRASÍLIA (DF) – Out of the 338,400 slots available in the University for All Program (Prouni), 45,000 have been allocated to candidates from the Legal Amazon in the first semester of 2025. The program offers scholarships—either full or partial—across 403 courses in 1,031 private institutions throughout the country. The selection results are expected to be published on February 4.
The state of Pará leads in the number of scholarships awarded (11,528), followed by Maranhão (9,911) and Amazonas (7,797). The federation unit with the fewest slots is Roraima, with 953.
Of Pará’s 11,500 scholarships, 8,092 are full and 3,436 are partial, according to the Ministry of Education (MEC). These scholarships are spread across 64 institutions. The courses offering the highest number of scholarships are Business Administration (1,300), Pedagogy (1,275), and Accounting Sciences (727).

Maranhão, with 9,911 scholarships, has offered 3,845 full and 6,066 partial scholarships across 56 private institutions in the state. Law (1,312), Business Administration (730), and Nursing (712) lead in the number of slots. For the Law program, 1,148 scholarships are partial (50%), while only 164 are full.
In Amazonas, out of the 7,700 scholarships, 3,841 are full, and 3,956 are partial, distributed across 36 institutions registered in the program. The courses with the most slots are Pedagogy (809), Business Administration (797), and Law (679). Social Work received the fewest scholarships, with only 282 available.
As the fourth Amazonian state in terms of scholarships, Mato Grosso received 4,993 slots—2,012 full and 2,981 partial—distributed among 66 higher education institutions. The most-funded courses are Law (719), Business Administration (465), and Accounting Sciences (465). Architecture and Urban Planning, as well as Physical Education, received the fewest scholarships, both with 146.
Tocantins ranked fifth in the Amazon region, with 3,943 scholarships, of which 2,549 are full (100%) and 1,394 are partial (50%), offered in 30 institutions. Business Administration (412), Accounting Sciences (305), and Law (252) have the most scholarships, while Biomedicine (143) and Civil Engineering (137) have the fewest slots.
In Rondônia, Prouni provided 2,930 scholarships—2,007 full and 923 partial—distributed among 38 institutions. Law (247), Accounting Sciences (237), and Pedagogy (221) received the highest number of scholarships. Pharmacy had the lowest number of slots, with only 92.
For Amapá, 1,601 scholarships were allocated, of which 1,212 are full and 389 are partial, distributed across 17 institutions. Law (191), Pedagogy (161), and Business Administration (158) have the most scholarships, while Accounting Sciences (49) and Information Technology Management (48) received the fewest.
Acre was allocated 1,359 scholarships, with 975 full and 384 partial, distributed among 22 private institutions. Law (136), Pedagogy (130), and Business Administration (118) lead in scholarship availability. Pharmacy (32) and Biomedicine (28) received the fewest slots.
Roraima had the lowest number of scholarships offered this semester. Of the 953 total, 880 are full, and 73 are partial, across 16 institutions. Pedagogy (130), Business Administration (96), and Nursing (89) received the highest number of scholarships, while Nutrition and Psychology had only 22 slots each.
Income Criteria Define Scholarship Type
Full scholarships (100%) are awarded to candidates with a gross monthly per capita family income of up to 1.5 times the minimum wage, while partial scholarships (50%) are available to students with a gross monthly per capita family income of up to three times the minimum wage.
Across the nine states, the highest number of scholarships is concentrated in four main courses: Law, Business Administration, Accounting Sciences, and Pedagogy, with some variation for Nursing in Roraima and Maranhão.
With applications closing on Tuesday, January 28, Prouni will release the first list of selected candidates on February 4 and the second on February 28. The program will open a waiting list consultation for interested candidates between March 26 and 27.
