Amid the hype of debates about Bill 1904/2024, which equates abortion with the crime of homicide, including cases of rape, a councillor from Manaus (AM) argued that an “accident”, referring to sexual violence by a man against a woman, does not justify terminating a pregnancy, even if the victims are children. He made this statement in a podcast, whose presenters were two women, who agreed on the most absurd description of rape one can hear.
In 1949, the philosopher Simone de Beauvoir raised the debate that “being a woman” is not related to biology, but to a socio-political and psychoanalytical construction, inaugurating issues relating to instances of power in contemporary society in her famous work “The Second Sex”. From this revolutionary thought, the debate on gender equality began with the emergence of feminism, the same feminism that enabled the two presenters of the Manaus podcast the right to front an interview progra
It is outrageous to see the ignorance and alienation of some women in defense of misogynistic agendas that place them in an inferior position, as intellectual indigents, anchored in male control under the allegation of defending life, but without reasoning that their lives are worthless in the face of a discussion about what is considered “life”.
Behind the cognitive submission of these women is a history of indoctrination to which they have been subjected since childhood, from the religious perspective that women were born from a man’s rib and therefore should be subordinated. Simone de Beauvoir said in 1949 that “one is not born a woman, one becomes one”, because she understood that the identity of “being a woman” is shaped by the social environment.
In this issue, CENARIUM MAGAZINE looks at Bill 1904/2024 from the point of view of the value of life, the lives of women and girls, because it believes that the more information they have, the more they will be aware of the difference they need to make in a society that has invalidated them since ancient times, because, as Beauvoir defended: “Being on the margins of the world is not a favorable position for those who want to recreate it”.
The subject was the cover story and special feature of the new June 2024 issue of CENARIUM. Click here to read the full article
