MANAUS – A team of Search and Rescue in Jungle Environment of the Amazonas Fire Department left, on Sunday, 20, bound for Manicoré, to start the search for two children who are missing in the jungle region of the Palmeira Indian Community, in the city. As the corporation confirmed this Monday, 21, to CENARIUM, the search has already begun.

The municipality is 390 kilometers from Manaus (AM). According to the corporation, Glauco and Gleison, 6 and 8 years old, respectively, are brothers and have been missing since Friday, 18.

According to the Operations Center of the Fire Department (Cobom), according to an occurrence bulletin registered in the municipality, the children reside in the Palmeira indigenous community, but there is no information whether they are indigenous.

“Because they are children, it is a complication, because children have no notion of orientation, of survival, of preservation of their own bodies to survive in the jungle, that is why we are in a hurry to locate them”, explained the commander-general of the Military Fire Department of Amazonas, Colonel Orleilso Ximenes Muniz, in an interview with the press this morning, Monday, 21.

The team consists of six military firefighters and, according to the corporation, the parents reported that the children went out to hunt birds nearby and did not return. “The hostile environment of the jungle increases the degree of risk and difficulties for lost children”, said the Fire Department.
