MANAUS (AM) – Judges Carla Reis and Nélia Caminha Jorge were sworn in on January 10th, as president and vice-president and ombudswoman of the Regional Electoral Court of Amazonas (TRE-AM), respectively, for the 2025-2027 term, during a ceremony held at the Amazon Theater.

For the first time in a single administration, two women will assume the highest leadership positions of the Amazonas Electoral Court, marking a historic moment for the institution and the State.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by various authorities, including Justice Mauro Campbell Marques, National Ombudsman of Justice; the Governor of Amazonas, Wilson Lima; the Vice-President of the Amazonas Court of Justice (TJAM), Justice Airton Gentil, who represented the State Judiciary; the General Ombudsman for Justice, Minister Hamilton Saraiva; as well as other magistrates and staff from TJAM and TRE.

In her speech, the new president of TRE-AM, Carla Reis, emphasised that her administration will be characterised by participation and the fight against the spread of hate and disinformation. The judge expressed her gratitude to her family, fellow judges, court staff, and collaborators, and reinforced her commitment alongside the vice-president, Nélia Caminha.

“The scenario ahead is challenging because we will be responsible for organizing and preparing the upcoming general elections in 2026. But I assure you all that it will be carried out with the utmost respect and care for democratic institutions, avoiding and combating any spread of hate and/or disinformation, thereby ensuring the rule of law, which has been significantly threatened in recent years by political polarization. Our efforts will be guided by a spirit of unity, hard work, and dedication“, she said.

During the 2026 elections, Carla Reis and Nélia Caminha will oversee the Electoral Justice. That year will see the election of the country’s president, governors, senators, and federal and state deputies.
