For the third consecutive time, CENARIUM photojournalist wins MOL award

MANAUS (AM)CENARIUM’s photojournalist and photography editor, Ricardo Oliveira, was the winner of the 3rd MOL Journalism Award for Solidarity, in the Photojournalism category, for his work on the report “Baniwa Artisans: hands that weave ancestral tradition as a source of income.” The award ceremony took place at the São Paulo Museum of Art (Masp), in the state capital, this Monday, the 7th.

This is the third consecutive time the professional has won the category. In 2024, Ricardo Oliveira won in the same category with the photo series featured in the report “Social Lutherie: school teaches art to the outskirts community of Manaus.” In 2023, the winning work was a selection of images the professional titled “Handlers – A Visual Chronicle.”

The professional highlighted the importance of the work carried out by the awarded communication professionals and what the recognition represents. “We use the power of communication to inspire generosity, raise awareness among citizens and mobilise a donating society,” stated Ricardo Oliveira.

Career

Ricardo Oliveira is from Amazonas, began his career in Rio de Janeiro, where he lived, and studied at FotoRiografia. In 1995, he returned to Manaus and has since worked in the local press. He was one of the winners of the “1st Government of the State of Amazonas Journalism Award.”

He has also won the National Award of the Public Ministry of Labour (MPT), the 7th edition of the Anamatra Human Rights Award, and the Vladimir Herzog Award for Amnesty and Human Rights (Honourable Mention) with the report “Piabeiros and Piaçabeiros on the banks of the Rio Negro and the Labour Laws and Human Rights.”

MOL Award

The MOL Award is an initiative of the MOL Institute to recognise the work of journalists, grassroots communicators and communication students who contribute to strengthening the culture of giving, solidarity, and the work of civil society organisations, highlighting the importance of these themes for the exercise of citizenship.
