MANAUS (AM) – The former commander of the Military Police of Amazonas (PM-AM) in Novo Aripuanã (AM), located 227 kilometers from Manaus, Lieutenant Deivison de Oliveira Bento, was arrested this Monday, the 5th, for aggravated bodily harm due to gender-based motive and aggravated damage. The arrest comes eight days after he was filmed assaulting a woman and firing gunshots into the air on a public street. The “Wounds in the Soul” Operation was conducted by the Public Prosecutor’s Office of Amazonas (MP-AM).
In addition to the arrest, agents also executed three search and seizure warrants — one in the municipality and two at addresses in the capital of Amazonas. According to MP-AM, the measures were adopted after the wide repercussion of the episode that occurred on April 27 of this year.

Investigations indicated that, in addition to the assault recorded on video, the officer assaulted another woman with a slap and used pepper spray. According to prosecutor Jéssica Vitoriano Gomes, head of the Public Prosecutor’s Office in Novo Aripuanã (AM), the officer was off duty at the time of the incident and “acted in a violent manner against two women.”
