MANAUS – The Civil Police of Amazonas (PC-AM) arrested in Manaus, on Tuesday, 5, a 42 year old woman who was selling vacancies of public competitions for the Military Police (PM) and Civil Police (PC). One of the victims suffered a financial blow of more than R$ 16 thousand. The PC is investigating the case and suspects more victims.
According to the delegate of the Department of Repression to Organized Crime (DRCO), Rafael Guevara, the woman pretended to be a civilian police officer and promised to get a nomination in the institution for the victims. The complainant had already paid the amount of R$ 16.3 thousand when she decided to take the case to the police.

“The first victim suspected that it was a scam because the author always asked for new amounts at each new stage of the victim’s entry into the police. First she asked for an amount to guarantee a position, which would be for an investigator. Then she asked for a new amount to get a gun permit. Then she asked for a new amount so that instead of being assigned to the East Zone, she would be assigned to the General Police Station. Then she got suspicious and went to the police”, explained the delegate.
“In addition to the R$16,300 that she [the victim] had already paid, she [the suspect] was charging R$800. She scheduled a lunch with the victim and the victim triggered the DRCO. We showed up at the scene and we ended up arresting in the act”, he added.
R$ 68 thousand in scams
Also according to the delegate, the woman has no criminal record and confessed to the fraud because “needed the money”. The department attended, so far, five victims, but the police suspect that there are at least 20 people deceived by the suspect. “So far five victims have come to the DRCO, totaling a little over R$68,000”, explained Rafael Guevara.
The delegate recalls that the only way to become part of the police career is through public competition. “There is no nomination by appointment. People have to be alert because it is a scam”, he concluded.
The woman will answer for the crime of fraud and will be available to the Judiciary.
