MANAUS – The Public Ministry of Amazonas (MP-AM) opened a civil investigation to investigate acts of administrative misconduct by the current secretary of Works of Coari (336 kilometers from Manaus). According to the ministerial body, he is suspected of providing improper distribution of fuel to welcome the arrival of former mayor Adail Pinheiro in the city.

The office of Works, also known as the Municipal Department of Infrastructure, is headed by civil engineer André Luiz Pinheiro. The investigation was opened last Thursday, 3, by the prosecutor Thiago de Melo Roberto Freire, who gave ten days for the secretary to manifest. The ordinance of the investigation was published on Friday, 4, in the Official Electronic Journal of MP-AM.

André Luiz Pinheiro took office as municipal secretary in Coari on January 10 for the management 2022-2024, according to publications on social networks of the municipality. The engineer joins the management of the new mayor Keitton Pinheiro (PP) and vice (Republicans), elected on December 5 last year, during a by-election held after the removal from office of Adail Filho.

“The mayor, Keitton Pinheiro, along with the vice-mayor Edilson Lima, gave inauguration to the secretaries and autarchy managers who will compose his government. With the restructuring, prepared by the new management and approved by the City Council, the city hall reaffirms its commitment to the population, with transparency of its acts, demonstrating its new work team so that together they can contribute to the development of the municipality and the quality of life of the inhabitants”, wrote the city hall, in a post on Facebook on January 10.

Keitton Pinheiro is a cousin of Adail Filho and nephew of Adail Pinheiro, both former mayors of Coari who had the mandate revoked. In the 2020 elections, Keitton defeated candidates Robson Tiradentes (PSC), Zé Henrique (PL), and Mil Mitouso (PSB).

Adail Pinheiro, Adail Filho’s father, had his mandate revoked in 2014 for suspicion of being part of a network of sexual exploitation of children and adolescents in Amazonas. In 2016, Adail Filho ran for election and was elected mayor of Coari, succeeding his father.

Because of Adail Filho’s reelection in 2020, the Regional Electoral Court of Amazonas (TRE-AM) understood that he could not run the city government and revoked his mandate. The reason alleged by the Electoral Court was because this would be the third consecutive mandate of the same family.

According to the TRE, they could not run the city hall, because this would be the third consecutive mandate of the same family nucleus. This is because, in 2016, Adail Filho was elected mayor and then reelected in 2020.

The CENARIUM MAGAZINE contacted the city hall of Coari, through the communications office and the e-mail [email protected], available on the official Facebook of the Municipal Executive, questioning information about the case.

Among the questions sent by the report, are the questioning whether the city collaborated with fuel to receive the former mayor Adail Pinheiro to the city, if fuel was intended for the former mayor or the general population; what is the position of the Secretary of Works on the case; what is the link between the former mayor Adail with the current mayor; if Adail Pinheiro provides any service to the City and why he would be received.

As of the publication of this article, CENARIUM MAGAZINE has not received a reply.
