MANAUS – The indigenous people of Vale do Javari protest for justice to victims of violence on the morning of Monday, 13. The mobilization of the communities in the city of Atalaia do Norte, a municipality in the state of Amazonas, brings together activists in support and requests for protection to the leaders who fight with indigenous institutions. “You are not alone”, said one of the posters held up.

In search of answers, the march asks for protection and points out the neglect of institutions, which allows criminals to act freely in the region. “Justice now”, claimed another poster. “We want peace in our villages”, expressed the protesters on posters. In addition, the indigenous people showed solidarity with the families of British journalist Dom Phillips and indigenous activist Bruno Pereira, and demanded answers about the disappearance of the two men.

So far, there is no official information about Bruno and Dom’s disappearance and the Federal Police (PF) denies that the bodies have been found and that a supposed forensics investigation is being carried out.

Videos of the demonstration by indigenous leaders were shared on social networks by Estadão reporter Vinícius Valfré. “Much sadness and indignation of the Javari peoples with the lack of answers about the disappearance of Bruno and Dom. The PF affirms that today’s information about body location is NOT true”, he wrote on his Twitter.
