MANAUS – The session of the Parliamentary Inquiry Commission (CPI) of Covid in the Senate on Tuesday, 28, brought to light more clarification on the use of the protocol for prescribing early treatment, popularly known as “Kit Covid”, in health facilities in Manaus. This time, the discovery was that the secretary of Work Management and Health Education, of the Ministry of Health, Mayra Pinheiro, the “Chloroquine Captain” was based on the experiment of the health operator Prevent Senior to promote drugs without proven effectiveness in the capital of Amazonas.
During the session, Senator Eliziane Gama (Citizenship-MA) recalled that on May 20, 2020 the Health ministry presented an Informative Note – signed by three doctors from Prevent Senior – making recommendations on the use of hydroxychloroquine and citing the health operator as a success story. The goal was to implement the method in other hospitals in the country.
It was then that the president of the CPI, the amazonian Omar Aziz, pointed out that it was using this note that Captain Chloroquine went to Manaus to promote the prescription of hydroxychloroquine to patients with Covid-19. “That was in May 2020, but she continued with this protocol even with the World Health Organization saying it was worthless, even with everyone saying it was worthless. She persisted with it until she created an application and brought it to Manaus in January”, the senator pointed out.

In the ensuing discussion, senator and CPI vice-president Randolfe Rodrigues used the new information to reinforce the request for the removal of Mayra Pinheiro, who continues to hold the position at the Ministry of Health. “I beg the leadership of this CPI, in which I include myself, to seek, in a hearing, as soon as possible, with Minister Ricardo Lewandowski, to present the new facts, which make inevitable the need for the removal of Ms. Mayra Pinheiro for the sake of conducting the investigations”, he reiterated.
The health operator has been accused of omitting deaths in a study on hydroxychloroquine aimed at demonstrating its efficacy and of administering ineffective Covid-19 drugs without the patients’ consent. The allegations appear in a dossier produced by former doctors of the plan that was forwarded to the senators of the commission.

The results of the study on the use of hydroxychloroquine were disclosed by President Jair Bolsonaro and his sons in their social networks in April 2020, with the information that no patient had died among those who took the drugs. The dossier, however, points to nine deaths, six of them of people who received the cocktail that the president propagandized throughout the pandemic under the name of “early treatment” or “Kit Covid.”
The director of Prevent Senior defended the study and accused the former doctors of illegally accessing patient data and tampering with information to attack the company. She appealed to the Attorney General’s Office to investigate the authors of the dossier under suspicion of “calumnious denunciation”.
