MANAUS (AM) – President of the 30th United Nations Conference on Climate Change (COP30), which will be held in Belém (PA) in November this year, André Corrêa do Lago has requested resignation from a position he held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Brazil. The measure was made official through an ordinance published in the Official Gazette of the Union (DOU) on 14 April 2025 and signed by the Chief of Staff Minister, Rui Costa.
The position of Secretary for Climate, Energy and Environment of the General Secretariat for Foreign Affairs had been held by the ambassador since March 2023. The ordinance indicates that the resignation was backdated to 11 April 2025. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ press office reported that André Corrêa do Lago’s departure was necessary because he cannot hold two positions simultaneously within the federal administration. See the decree that made the secretary’s resignation official:

André Corrêa do Lago was announced as President of COP30 in January this year by President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT). According to the government, the ambassador’s name, who is an experienced climate regime negotiator, reflects Brazil’s commitment to the global sustainable development agenda and reinforces the country’s leadership in international climate negotiations.
