MANAUS (AM) – Federal Deputy Nikolas Ferreira (PL/MG) referred to those convicted over 8 January as “troublemakers” during a speech at the pro-amnesty rally in São Paulo on Sunday, the 6th. The MP also called Supreme Federal Court (STF) Justice Alexandre de Moraes a “coward”.
Ferreira was referring to the sentences handed down to those arrested and later convicted for the attacks on the buildings of the Three Powers in Brasília (DF). One of the convictions was criticised at the demonstration.
“Harsh sentences are for criminals, not for troublemakers,” said Nikolas Ferreira when speaking about the convictions. “Robe-wearing dictators, especially Alexandre de Moraes, used the 8th to frighten us – tough luck, look at us here! This is our answer to you, you coward,” he added.
Summoned by former President Jair Bolsonaro (PL), demonstrators gathered on Avenida Paulista, in São Paulo, to pressure for amnesty for those involved in the 8 January 2023 coup attempt. The gathering for the protest scheduled for 2pm (Brasília time) had already begun in the morning.
With lipsticks
Before the pro-amnesty rally on Avenida Paulista, São Paulo, women responded to the call of former First Lady Michelle Bolsonaro and brought lipsticks as a symbol of support for the amnesty of those involved in the anti-democratic acts of 8 January. The colour red was avoided by some demonstrators, as it is associated with the Partido dos Trabalhadores (Workers’ Party (PT)).
The cosmetic was used in reference to the hairdresser convicted of five crimes, including attempting a coup d’état, one of which was writing on the statue “Justice” in front of the Supreme Federal Court (STF) with red lipstick. Débora Rodrigues dos Santos has been under house arrest since the end of March, following a decision by Justice Alexandre de Moraes.
“She’s out, but wearing an ankle tag. In other words, she can’t even work properly, after two years in prison, without a trial,” criticised 73-year-old pensioner Neuza de Almeida, who travelled from Sorocaba (SP) to take part in the demonstration.
