MANAUS (AM) – Amid the escalating conflict between Israel and Iran, members of the Liberal Party (PL), the party of Jair Bolsonaro, and supporters of the former president reacted on their social media platforms this Sunday, June 22, to the United States’ attack on three of Iran’s main nuclear facilities, which took place on the night of Saturday, the 21st.
Bolsonaro and his allies have adopted a pro-Israel stance since the beginning of the conflict between Israel and Hamas in October 2023, and intensified their statements nine days ago when Israeli forces opened fire on Iran and its nuclear program. Over the past week, Israel launched what it called “preemptive attacks” on the Persian country and declared a state of emergency, further escalating tensions in the region.
Eduardo Bolsonaro (PL), a federal deputy on leave and son of former president Jair Bolsonaro, called the Iranian government “religious fanatics who support suicide terrorism, suicide bombers, and desire the destruction of Israel.” In his Sunday post, which included video footage of the U.S. strike, the politician stated that Trump had attempted to negotiate a deal, unsuccessfully.
“Trump tried to negotiate. Without success. He showed that there was a chance for peace. Today, Iran already has uranium enriched to 60%—almost weapons-grade, according to the UN’s own nuclear agency,” said the politician, who currently resides in the United States.
The congressman left Brazil in March of this year, one week before the trial in the Supreme Federal Court (STF) that made his father, former president Jair Bolsonaro, a defendant for attempting a coup d’état. Bolsonaro and military officials are accused of trying to overturn the 2022 election results after his defeat by Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT).

Leader of the PL in the Chamber of Deputies, congressman Sóstenes Cavalcante (RJ) also expressed support for Trump in the conflict. The lawmaker pointed to the warning issued by Trump during his address at the White House on Saturday night, the 21st, just hours after the country launched airstrikes on three of Iran’s major nuclear sites.
“Trump hardens his stance against Iran. In a new statement, Trump warned that if peace does not come, the targets will be struck within minutes,” said the Brazilian congressman.

Another pro-Bolsonaro congressman who commented on the matter online was Nikolas Ferreira (PL-MG). He shared a quote from the American president directed at Iran’s potential allies. “Trump sends a message to leaders who hint at possible support for Tehran: ‘If you don’t change your mind, I will make you change,’” he noted.

Bolsonaro supporters speak out
Several supporters of former president Jair Bolsonaro also commented on the matter on social media. Influencer Antônia Fontenelle, a publicly right-wing figure, posted a sarcastic “SOS” in her Instagram stories regarding the closure of the Strait of Hormuz following the U.S. strike on Iran.
About 20% of the world’s oil supply passes through the strait. In her post, Antônia said she would start stockpiling food. Using profanity, the influencer also tagged fortune teller Chaline, asking if there was any “good news” predicted for the now-blocked region.
In March of this year, the TV host had her political rights suspended following a court ruling in a case brought by influencer Felipe Neto. The decision came after accusations of slander, defamation, and insult made by Fontenelle against Neto in statements during live broadcasts on her social media in 2020.
