VILHENA (RO) – The alert that gathers data compiled since July this year, from the State Agency for Health Surveillance (Agevisa), points out that ten, from the 52 municipalities in Rondônia, are facing dengue outbreaks, a disease that grew more than 600% in the State, in 2022.
Added together, the confirmed cases in the municipalities that are in the most critical situation exceed 5 thousand diagnoses of the disease. To classify the scenario as a dengue “outbreak”, the agency takes into account the population indicators of the cities, which range from 4,000 to 100,000 inhabitants.

Explosion of cases
Also according to Agevisa, the situation is alarming in 11 other cities. More than 11,000 cases of dengue have been recorded in Rondônia since January, while cases of zika virus and chikungunya fell by 9% and 40%, until November. These three diseases are transmitted by the same mosquito, Aedes aegypti.
The explosion of dengue cases was confirmed by Agevisa last month, when the spread of the disease had already grown 623% compared to the same period in 2021: the first 11 months of the year. The scenario continues to worsen and worrying the authorities.

No rubbish, no mosquitoes
For the folder linked to the State Department of Health (Sesau-RO), the ideal is to redouble care against the Aedes aegypti, which tends to reproduce much more, now, during the summer, when the months are rainier and the mosquito breeding sites tend to appear more often. Therefore, it is important to eliminate water stored in plant pots, tyres, bottles and pools.

“We ask for the collaboration of all, that take care of their homes, especially, the backyard”, reinforces the director general of Agevisa, in Rondonia, Gilvander Gregório de Lima. “Dengue is a disease of great concern to public health, and our biggest call is to put an end together to the neglect of rubbish, an environment conducive to breeding sites”, added the director.
Sad estimate
The Brazilian Society of Infectology (SBI) predicts that Brazil ends 2022 with a negative record in the number of cases and deaths by the disease. By December, 978 people died from north to south of the country, almost the mark reached in 2015, the year in which there were more deaths from dengue: 986 victims.
Deaths increased by 400% and confirmed cases by 172.4% when comparing 2021 and 2022. According to the bulletin of the Ministry of Health (MS), the country has already exceeded 1.4 million cases. In the whole of last year, there were 544 thousand records of the disease.
