MANAUS – Protagonist and one of the stars of the acclaimed American series Sex and the City, Sarah Jessica Parker showed this Friday, 20, on Instagram, two gifts she received from an Amazonian: the book “The Brothers”, from writer also Amazonian Milton Hatoum, in English version, and a necklace of beads made by a group of artists from the Amazon. In the caption of the publication, the actress praised the recipients and the author of the work.

“Thank you, dear @brunadosgatos, for the deeply thoughtful and beautiful gifts you offered. I am so touched. The necklace is made of wood and by a group of local Amazonian artists (I wish you could really see the glorious colors of the beads!) and the book by author Milton Hatoum, who hails from Bruna’s hometown of Manaus in the Amazon rainforest in Brazil. The book received many compliments and I am grateful to be introduced to this author,” said Sarah Jessica Parker.

CENARIUM tried to contact the Amazonian who delivered the gifts, but got no return. However, in a series of stories, also on Instagram, she celebrated the mention. “Well people, I am ‘dying’ inside a subway right now. I don’t know if I can still concentrate on anything after this event,” she said.

In a comment made on the American actress’ post, Bruna thanked her. “Thank you once again. I hope you love his words as much as I do,” she concluded.

In the same social network, the writer’s official profile shared Sarah Jessica Parker’s publication, but there was no comment.

The writer and the book

Milton Hatoum was born in Manaus and is the author of the short story book “A cidade ilhada” (2009), but gained greater notoriety with the novels “Relato de um certo Oriente” (1989), “Dois irmãos” (2000), “Cinzas do Norte” (2005) and “Órfãos do eldorado” (2008). The first three were awarded the Jabuti Prize, the highest literary award in Brazil.

The book “Two Brothers” became so acclaimed that it was adapted, in audiovisual format, in the form of a miniseries and aired on Rede Globo in 2017, with direction by Luiz Fernando Carvalho and actor Cauã Reymond in the role of the twins.

The book tells the story of the troubled relationship between twin brothers Yaqub and Omar, from a family of Lebanese descent living in Manaus. Yaqub is born healthy and strong, but Omar has breathing difficulties. Along with this comes a difference in care, which makes Omar, the “Big One”, the son most cared for by Zana, while Yaqub receives more care from Domingas, an Indian who is the family’s maid.

Completely different, the twins live conflicts of jealousy, resentment, envy, desire, pride and death.
