Amazonas will have a program to combat violence in schools

MANAUS – The governor of Amazonas, Wilson Lima (Union Brazil), said on Monday, 4, that the state government structures a program to combat violence in schools. The announcement came after recent cases of threats to schools, both in the capital Manaus and in AM countryside. The deadline for launching the program guidelines is next week, without specific date.

According to Wilson Lima, there are those who “infiltrate to be able to cause chaos” and the Secretary of State for Education (Seduc) and Secretary of Public Safety of the Amazon (SSP-AM) work together, since the security threats are beyond the educational competence.

“We are following with great concern everything that has been happening in the schools regarding the threats of attacks”, he explained. “We know that in this process there are many people who infiltrate in order to cause chaos, but we are working together with the Secretary of Education and the Secretary of Public Security, because there are some issues that are outside the educational competence and that go through a public security matter”.

The governor also explained that the secretariat has called all the teachers from the schools where the threats occurred, the parents and all the students involved to “understand what is happening”, which will be the basis of the program to be launched. “This will be the basis of the program that will be launched. “And we are forming a program to be launched in this sense, to combat the violence that has been happening in schools”, he concluded.

Threats to schools

On the morning of Monday, 3, a threat of massacre at the Municipal School Sergio Augusto Pará Bitencourt, in the Novo Israel neighborhood, north of Manaus, viralized on the Internet and parents withdrew their children from the site desperate. The author of the message said that the attack in Manaus would not be with knives, but with the use of firearms, referring to the attack that occurred in São Paulo, where a student, 13 years, killed a teacher and injured four people.

The Civil Police of Amazonas (PC-AM) investigates a threat of massacre and poisoning against students and servers of the State School Tereza dos Santos, in Itapiranga, 226 kilometers from Manaus. The threats were posted on a fake profile on Instagram and graffiti on the wall of a school bathroom. According to the police, one of the threats said that the school principal would be poisoned.

Already in Maués, 255 kilometers from the capital of Amazonas, three students were arrested suspected of planning attacks against life and students, teachers and employees of the establishment. The teenagers left messages on the walls of the school’s bathroom. One of the messages threatened the pedagogue and the principal.
