MANAUS – The journalist and councilman Bruno Perez (MDB), the City Council of Boa Vista (RR), filed a request for impeachment of the state governor, Antonio Denarium (PP). Bruno formalized the request with the Legislative Assembly of Roraima (ALE-RR) on Monday morning, 6. The article from CENARIUM MAGAZINE, entitled “They have to be acculturated’: RR governor’s speech is considered a crime by the MPF”, was attached as one of the proofs of the crime of responsibility formalized by the parliamentarian.

According to Bruno Perez, the CENARIUM publication was part of a list of 50 links that were used as a basis by the congressman. “We took the most well-founded articles, and the CENARIUM article did provide the basis, as proof, to denounce the omission of a government that failed. The article was very important”, recognized the councilman who highlighted the “omission” and the recent speeches of Denarium.

“I saw that no lawmaker has spoken out about the statements made by the governor against the indigenous people. And then Lula came here and discovered something that is not new. Because it is an old problem. A problem that Denarium knew about”, he said. “Denarium did not ask Bolsonaro or the federal government for help at any time,” he denounced.

The parliamentarian continued and did not spare any criticism of the governor of Roraima. “Now that Lula discovered everything, in quotes, he wants help, he wants to help indigenous people, he wants to be well-meaning. The governor, in fact, was omission,” fired the journalist who adds:

“He never made an operation to contain the clandestine flights, the clandestine runways. On the contrary, he approved laws that allowed mining, and I believe that the deputies need to analyze his omissions and his speeches saying that the indigenous live like animals. He exposed Roraima, negatively, to the world and this should be analyzed as a crime of responsibility”, considered Bruno.

The parliamentarian also cites about the work focused on denunciations as a journalist: “I am a councilman, but I work as a journalist. I denounced the overbilling of alcohol, of masks, I denounced the most expensive respirators in Brazil, I also denounced in the MPF the R$ 70 million for the countryside city halls allied with the governor. Money from precatórios for businessmen, in short…”, he summarized.

For Bruno, the work as a journalist helps in his posture as a political figure. “As much as it bothers us, it is our role as journalists to supply what, perhaps, a deputy could do and doesn’t. I gather evidence, I investigate, and I show what I can do. I gather evidence, I investigate and show where the error lies and where that issue can be improved. Both you at CENARIUM and we here in Roraima have this role. We have to be always attentive because in the North Region we will always have these agendas that are important,” he observed.

On January 31, the journalist Ívina Garcia published that the governor of Roraima, Antonio Denarium (PP), is the target of investigation for discriminatory statements against the Yanomami people during an interview with Folha de S.Paulo.

According to the Federal Public Ministry (MPF), during the interview with Folha, on January 29, Denarium belittled the culture and way of life of the Yanomami people when he said that “they [indigenous people] have to become acculturated, they can no longer stay in the middle of the forest, looking like animals. The speech was considered to be unlawful conduct subject to civil and criminal liability.

Because he has a privileged forum, the governor of Roraima will be investigated on a civil basis by the Federal Public Ministry (MPF) and on a criminal basis before the Superior Court of Justice (STJ), if the Attorney General of the Republic (PGR) investigates possible criminal conduct.

On occasion, after the controversial speech of the governor of Roraima, the Hutukara Yanomami Association released a note of repudiation for considering the statement “another attack on indigenous peoples”. “We, the indigenous peoples of the State of Roraima, repudiate the statements of Governor Denarium and we urgently request that he be investigated and convicted for the crimes that he committed of discrimination and genocide of the indigenous peoples of Roraima,” emphasized an excerpt from the note.

According to the criminal wording, to practice, induce, or incite discrimination or prejudice based on race, color, ethnicity, religion, or national origin, is punishable by imprisonment of one to three years and a fine.

In addition, in the second paragraph the law states that: “If any of the crimes provided in the caput is committed through the media or publication of any nature.” (Redaction by Law No. 9459, May 15, 1997). Penalty: confinement of two to five years and fine.”
