MANAUS – After a report in the newspaper O Globo show that the student Amazon Rilary Castro, 18 years, the city of Itapiranga (227 kilometers from Manaus), would not be able to afford the studies in Manaus, the Federal University of Amazonas (Ufam) said on Monday, 20, through a note, that the Department of Student Affairs (Daest) has support edicts for students in socioeconomic vulnerability.

Rilary Castro got the highest score in the 2022 National High School Exam (Enem). The young woman intends to study Civil Engineering. She is among the 24 public school students from all over Brazil to achieve the 1.000 grade and was also approved in the last entrance exam of the Amazonas State University (UEA) for the Materials Engineering course. Among the aids are: academic, housing, university residence, digital inclusion, day care, and high-cost academic material. Among the objectives of the financial support is to guarantee the permanence of the student in the university. The positioning of Ufam reiterates, still, that the institution has nine University Restaurants (RUs), offering subsidized meals to the student community and free breakfast, lunch and dinner to students who receive aid.

The student Rilary Castro also said that she intensified her studies in the final stretch of the vestibulars and used the breaks from classes to improve her knowledge even more. “I used to study full time and, during the breaks, I kept on studying. Besides, when I got home, I would rest for a few hours and then go back to my routine,” she explained.

This practice led the student to achieve the highest score in her essay, which in 2022 had the theme: “Challenges for the valorization of traditional communities and peoples in Brazil”. The test was applied on November 13 and 2022 to more than 5 million young people in Brazil.

The student said that her older brother was the first in his family to enter a public university and that he had always studied to get into higher education. According to her, even with all her study, she said she was surprised to hear about her performance in the essay.

“I am very surprised, I was not expecting this score. My mind hasn’t been made up yet. I studied a lot, but I never imagined that I could achieve this grade. My family and I are very happy”, she celebrated.
