In Rondônia, inmates planned attack on public security agents

VILHENA (RO) – Messages intercepted by the Federal Police (PF) and the Penitentiary Management of the State of Rondônia indicate that inmates from prisons in the Southern Cone region were planning to kill public security agents. The plan that orchestrated an attempt on the lives of public servants was identified in December, but the information was only released this Tuesday, 7, by the Federal Police (PF).

Also on Tuesday, the police carried out three search and seizure warrants in the cities of Vilhena, Cerejeiras and Colorado D’Oeste, all more than 700 kilometers from the capital Porto Velho. The operation was named Salutis, in reference to the Latin word “salus”, which refers to salvation and the removal of danger.

External Communication

According to the police, the prisoners received orders from a criminal faction installed in the state capital and passed them on. Messages came from inside the prisons, to contacts outside, hidden in literary books, that is, “written in underlines”, as detailed by the police.

“These faction members intended to transmit messages and commands outside the prison system so that state agents could be executed by faction members who are at large,” explains the Federal Police.

After identifying the inmates’ external communication, the Federal Police entered the Criminal Court of Cerejeiras (RO) aiming the search and seizure at the addresses linked to the investigated. The goal, according to the Federal Police, is to find new evidence and dismantle the criminal group.

The Federal Police did not detail how many servers were threatened by the attack plan. It also did not specify in which municipalities the servers are stationed.
