Pará State Governor announces Rossieli Soares as new Education Secretary

MANAUS – The former Minister of Education Rossieli Soares will be the new Secretary of Education of the State of Pará from January 2023. The name was announced by the governor himself, Helder Barbalho (MDB), in social networks, on the night of Monday, 27. Rossieli has also served in the Amazon ministry.

Until April this year, Rossieli Soares was ahead of the Secretariat of Education of São Paulo. He was chosen in January 2019 by then-governor João Doria as a secretary with “ministerial status”, leaving the post in the Doria government to run for a seat in the House of Representatives, but failed to get elected.

On Twitter, Rossieli Soares stressed that he has a “history with the Amazon” and, therefore, it is with “great joy and great honour” that he accepted Barbalho’s invitation.

Also on social networks, Helder Barbalho highlighted the expansion of full-time schools in the state network, as the main action of Rossieli ahead of education in São Paulo. During his management, the number of units with this model increased fivefold.

“He worked as a counselor of the Basic Education Chamber of the National Education Council (CNE) and contributed to the policy of reformulation of secondary education in the country, and was vice president of the National Council of State Secretaries of Education (Consed). The new Secretary of Education of Pará was vice-president of the National Council of State Secretaries of Education (Consed), between 2015 and 2016, and took over as Secretary of Basic Education (SEB) of MEC in May 2016, taking over the Ministry of Education in the management of former president Michel Temer (MDB).

With expertise, the gaucho from Santiago knows well the issues related to basic education, as the high school reform, the BNCC children and elementary education. He was Secretary of Education of Amazonas between August 2012 and May 2016.
