“Mineiro, Sidão stood out in the universe of toadas and will be missed in the Parintins Festival”, posted the governor. “I am declaring three days of official mourning in honor of the artist. My affection and solidarity to family and friends.

Cardiac Arrest

Sidney Rezende suffered a cardiac arrest in the early hours of April 1 and was taken to the 28 de Agosto Hospital and Emergency Room, where he was intubated and remained hospitalized until his death.

Considered one of the greatest guitarists and musical producers of the toada de boi-bumbá, the rhythm of the Parintins Folkloric Festival, the musician was also recognized for adding features of the moda de viola to the Parintinense rhythm, modernizing and sophisticating the toada.

The musician became better known in the world of the toada when he led the group Regional Vermelho e Branco, with which he was the first to record the classic toada “O amor está no ar” (Love is on the air) by Chico da Silva.

Sidney “left to stay”

The Associação Folclórica Boi-Bumbá Garantido (AFBBG), of which Sidney was a member and supporter, issued a “Note of profound regret” entitled “Gente que partiu pra ficar” (People who left to stay). In the note, Sidney is called a giant in talent and unique in his history. “Sidney transformed the musicality of the toadas of the Parintins boi-bumbá. His refined style and technical precision impacted to such an extent that his contribution is unanimous in the fierce rivalry between Garantido and the opposite”, the note says.

The note from the boi-bumbá Garantido also specifies Sidney’s musical influence on the musical evolution of toadas from Parintins. “From a highly percussive origin, with Sidney Rezende the toada gained refinement of the strings and the joy of the metal attacks. Sidão enhanced our music commercially”.
