After disapproval, Flávio Dino changes name chosen for general direction of the Federal Highway Police

MANAUS – The former governor of Maranhão and future Minister of Justice, Flávio Dino (PSB) gave up the choice of the Secretary of Control and Transparency of Espírito Santo, Edmar Camata, for the position of director general of the Federal Highway Police (PRF). According to Dino, the withdrawal came shortly after users of social networks disapproved of the decision, recalling old posts by Camata in support of the operation and the arrest of President-elect Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT). Federal Highway Policeman Antônio Fernando Oliveira was the name announced to occupy the post.

“(…) is not a criteria, but there the question is that there was a private post and others. Anyway, really, it is not a judgment on what he thought in 2017 and 2018, because it is not really a criteria, in my view, determining, but in view of the controversy, of course, that he in the future would not meet conditions to devote himself as we would like”, Flávio Dino explained to journalists during a press conference held at the Central Cultural Brazil Bank (CCBB), headquarters of the transition government.

Choice

On Tuesday, 20, in a statement to the press, also at the CCBB, Flávio Dino stressed that the choice for Camata took into account the experience and managerial improvement.

“He is a person who has extensive knowledge of the institution, since he has been part of it for 18 years. And, at the same time, he has management experience. The choice of doctor Edmar Camata takes into account this idea of improvement, managerial improvement of these institutions, so that they can obey the principle of economy and efficiency”, declared the future minister about the decision that displeased allies of the elected president.

Positioning

Also in the press conference, the future Minister of Justice said he knew the political position of the then chosen to assume the general direction of the PRF, but the same did not extend to Camata’s posts on social networks.

“I was aware of his political position, but the content of certain posts, no. As for the general political position, yes. As for the content of a certain post, no. Because a search is made and there was no examination of a particular post. Now, as to the political position of him and many others, of course there was science”, said Dino.

In addition to the lawyer and federal highway police officer, Antônio Fernando Oliveira, chosen for the position of general direction of the PRF, Dino also cited other names that will integrate the second line of the folder. For the National Secretariat of Drug Policy, the name of Martha Rodrigues Machado, professor at the University of São Paulo (USP) and researcher at the Brazilian Centre for Analysis and Planning (Cebrap), was indicated.

Military Police Colonel Nivaldo César Restivo was in charge of the National Secretariat of Penal Policies. For the National Secretariat of Public Security, the federal lawmaker Tadeu Alencar (PSB) will be the National Secretary of Public Security. Jonata Galvão will be the director of Access to Justice and Conflict Mediation and Tadeu Alencar will be at the National Secretariat of Public Security.
