AM Federal Public Ministry opens proceedings to investigate antidemocratic protests

MANAUS – The Federal Public Ministry (MPF) in the Amazon opened an inquiry on Wednesday, 8, to investigate the disruption caused by anti-democratic acts that occur in front of the Amazon Military Command (CMA), in the West of Manaus. The notice of criminal fact was signed by the prosecutor and coordinator of the criminal core of the body, Filipe Pessoa de Lucena.

The investigation was opened after complaints received through the Citizen Service Room (SAC) of the State Attorney General’s Office, reporting the receipt of invitations to participate in demonstrations that have been taking place since November 2. The anti-democratic protest contests the fairness of the electoral process and has been taking place in the city for more than a week.

“Investigate representation made through the phone of PRAM duty, narrating the receipt of invitations through a WhatsApp group for the participation of demonstrations that would occur on November 2, 2022, in acts whose purpose would be the contestation of the electoral process, in front of the Amazon Military Command”, says the document.

Anti-democratic demonstrations

As shown by CENARIUM MAGAZINE, residents of the surroundings of the CMA suffer from an “avalanche” of traffic violations, exposure of children to vulnerability and even noise pollution. Councilman Sassá da Construção (PT) filed a lawsuit with the MPF asking for the removal of those present at the anti-democratic protest.

The extreme right-wing protesters are breaking traffic rules without any enforcement agency taking any action. At least ten laws of the Brazilian Traffic Code (CTB) are being disrespected, such as parking in double file or in lanes, “honking” and disturbing the silence at times beyond the legal limits.

Questioned by the report, the Municipal Institute of Urban Mobility (Immu) said, still on Wednesday, 9, that an integrated action with several government agencies is being prepared to ensure the clearance of Coronel Teixeira Avenue. “At the moment, what we can say is that an integrated action is being planned with no date yet”, he said briefly.

The Municipal Department of Environment and Sustainability (Semmas) was called to provide clarification about the noise pollution recorded around the CMA. Residents of the region told the report that the levels of noise pollution generated by “honking” came to register, on Monday, 7, 103 DBA (decibels), more than twice the permitted.

The agency reported that the protesters’ action exceeds the range of action of the secretariat, which operates in establishments subject to environmental licensing, such as concert halls, restaurants and commerce in general. “This already falls within the sphere of the Military Police”, noted the advisory, noting, still, for criminal contraventions.

The Environmental Protection Institute of Amazonas (Ipaam) informed that cases such as the one that happens in front of the CMA are the responsibility of the secretariat. “Noise pollution is with Semmas, the Manaus City Hall”, stated.
