MANAUS – A group of indigenous women from Brazil made a cultural demonstration at COP27, on Tuesday, 15, to criticize ‘relatives’ aligned with Bolsonaro Government for speaking “positively” of the president’s management at the event. CENARIUM MAGAZINE received the video of the demonstration with exclusivity, and interviewed the Amazonian indigenous woman Vanda Witoto.
The act took place around the Brazilian stands and had words of protest against the current president Jair Bolsonaro (PL). In this edition of the COP, the country is represented by three stands: the federal government’s, the Brazil Climate Action Hub – of civil society organizations -, and the Consortium of the Legal Amazon.
Gathered at the event, the indigenous women chanted a song in which one of the passages reads “I want to see Bolsonaro tied to a vine”, in response to the speeches of two indigenous people of the Pareci people, from the state of Mato Grosso.

“Some ‘relatives’ have been captured to speak by the government (Bolsonaro) and this is very bad for our fight. We are here claiming the right to territorial protection and many other claims of our people. It is unacceptable that we agree with this at this moment here”, said Vanda Witoto.
Witoto also added that the participation of women and indigenous youths at COP27 is essential, since it is the indigenous peoples themselves who should be spokespersons in the fight against climate change and its impacts on traditional territories.
“This is my first participation and we have been able to contribute in some important panels to think strategies on how to mitigate climate impacts within our territories, considering that we, indigenous peoples, the black and peripheral populations, are the main ones affected by climate change. And we effectively contribute for the climate balance”, she added.
