What is the goal of the “Ilumina + Amazonas” program?

Marcellus Campêlo – The governor Wilson Lima intends to modernize the public lighting system in the municipalities of the interior, for this he launched the program that will replace with LED fixtures, the sodium vapor lamps, mercury or mixed, which are traditionally used in municipalities. This change will provide energy savings, less impact on the environment, and safety in the better lit streets.

What is the goal to be reached?

Marcellus Campêlo – In this first phase, with a schedule to be completed by the end of the year, the goal is to reach 24 municipalities, taking into account that, besides Tefé and Parintins, where we are already operating, there is also Maués, where the service has already been done. In this location, UGPE has already implemented 100% LED lighting, when it executed the works of Prosaimaués, completed in 2019. In other municipalities – Atalaia do Norte, Alvarães and Novo Airão – the services will be carried out through an agreement. That is, in these places we will pass on the resources and the municipality will be in charge of performing the services. In the others, UGPE is coordinating the implementation of the program.

In those municipalities where UGPE is coordinating the execution of the services, what is the forecast in terms of quantity of lighting points to be reached and what is the investment made by the state government?

Marcellus Campêlo – 49.8 thousand lighting points will be replaced, with investments of R$110,538,381.98. The work has already started in Tefé and Parintins. The teams are in these two municipalities, which are already starting to receive the new LED lighting fixtures. The next municipality to benefit will be Itacoatiara, where the forecast is to start next week.

What are the advantages of the implementation of LED public lighting?

Marcellus Campêlo – In the first place, the amount invested by the state government will contribute with the tax collection in the contemplated cities. It is estimated to collect R$ 2.2 million in Service Tax (ISS) for the City Halls. LED lighting brings several advantages: the system produces more light per watt consumed, lasts longer, and generates savings of up to 65% in energy consumption, reducing costs for the municipalities. It is a system that promotes the reduction of carbon emissions into the atmosphere and does not emit ultraviolet rays. In addition, it will also contribute to road safety, which will be better and more illuminated.
