‘Festival Delas’: event brings together Amazonian caboclo women to share knowledge and experiences

MANAUS – In a special journey through inspiring stories, the “Festival Delas – O que é que a ‘Caboca’ tem?” brings together Amazonian women and puts them as protagonists of their own narratives to share knowledge and experience. The initiative, shown in five episodes available online on YouTube, addresses the plurality and the origin of caboclo, indigenous, riverine, black, mixed race, and rubber tapper characters from the region.
“The Festival Delas is an integrated arts event to talk about the plurality of Amazonian women, the cabocla, the indigenous, the black, the mestizo, the rubber tapper, the riverine and so many other incredible women who will be on stage sharing knowledge and also their inspiring experiences,” said journalist Emilli Sousa, who coordinates and presents the festival.

The event premiered on April 27th with the participation of historian Cleide Blackman, communicator and social scientist Betânia Avelar, singer Isabela Lima and actress Teo Nascimento, who debated the theme “Women in the History of the Amazon”. The new episodes will be aired this Wednesday, May 4th, and on May 11th, 18th, and 25th of this year.
With the theme “Indigenous Women: Identity, visibility and territory“, the second episode will be aired this Wednesday, 4th, starting at 7:30 pm (Rondônia time). Participating in the debate will be teacher, writer and Libras interpreter Núbia Sussuarana, researcher, educator and visual artist Déba Tacana, and the musical group Meninas da Amazônia, composed of children and adolescents from the Gleba Maravilha community, in the interior of Porto Velho, Rondônia.
Besides them, journalist Luciene Kaxinawá and indigenous activists Txai Suruí and Pi Suruí will also be present. The names of the guests for the next episodes will be announced in the coming weeks.
Festival Delas
“Festival Delas – O que é que a ‘caboca’ tem?” is a project contemplated by Federal Law 14.017/2020 (Aldir Blanc Law), through edict number 32/2021/Sejucel-Codec, 2nd edition Pacaás Novos – Award for the dissemination of festivals, exhibitions, and artistic-cultural fairs – Award for artistic-cultural production for live/recorded broadcasts.
The purpose of the award is to foster collective initiatives from cultural groups or segments, artists, researchers, producers, artistic communities, educators and other professionals who carry out activities in the field of art, contributing to social inclusion, the strengthening of citizenship, and the enforcement of cultural rights in the State of Rondônia.
In addition, the initiative seeks to provide the realization of activities on digital platforms and/or streaming in the format of festivals, exhibitions, and fairs in the languages of music, performing arts, visual arts, integrated arts, popular culture, traditional manifestations, audiovisual, and cultural expressions, for the adult and children audiences.
