MANAUS – A video that circulated in social networks on Monday, 31, shows the moment of despair of passengers on board a ferry when the ‘pusher’, boat responsible for locomotion of the maritime vehicle, sank. The ferry was carrying vehicles and passengers and was coming from the metropolitan city of Careiro da Várzea.

The destination of the boat was the Ceasa port, in the south of Manaus. The situation happened around 13:30 in the capital and scared those who were in the boat, which were adrift in the Rio Negro. Fortunately, there are no records of injuries.

“The pusher just sank here. We’re standing in the middle of the river because the pusher just sank. Everyone is desperate here”, says one of the passengers.

According to information obtained by CENARIUM MAGAZINE, a speedboat that was passing by saw the situation and went to Ceasa to warn and ask for help. Two speedboats were used to help transport the passengers and a second pusher was sent to complete the boat’s route.

At approximately 5:00 afternoon, the “pusher” sent to the rescue arrived at Ceasa and finally brought the ferry with the cars and other goods of the passengers to the port. The Fire Department informed that it did not act in this occurrence.

There were no victims

In a statement, the command of the 9th Naval District of the Brazilian Navy said it learned of the sinking of the pusher of one of the ferries that makes the crossing Manaus – Careiro da Várzea (AM), near the Port of Ceasa, but that there were no victims and no traces of water pollution.

Also according to the Navy, an Administrative Inquiry will be set up in order to ascertain the causes, circumstances and possible responsible parties. “Once concluded and after the legal formalities are fulfilled, the inquiry will be forwarded to the Maritime Court”, says the note.
