‘I legitimize myself to be here,’ says Luis Fabian upon being sworn in as a TCEAM Board member

MANAUS – The president of the Court of Auditors of Amazonas (TCE-AM), Érico Desterro, sworn in on Tuesday, 5, in the auditorium of the TCE-AM, the new counselor of the Court of Auditors Luis Fabian Pereira Barbosa. He takes office after the retirement of the dean of the court Julio Cabral, last March 29.

To the press, Luis Fabian spoke about his technical knowledge and qualification that legitimize him to be the new counselor of the TCE-AM.

“In the last 15 years in which I was ahead of several portfolios of the City and State, as authorizer of expenses, I certainly legitimize myself to be here at this moment. Also my academic qualifications, my background in law, followed by specialization in master’s, doctorate, and in academia, where I am a professor and have been teaching for 16 years. All this legitimizes me as a judge of accounts at this moment”, expressed Luís Fabian.

Luís Fabian was nominated by Governor Wilson Lima and had his name unanimously approved by the members of the Amazonas Legislative Assembly (Aleam). The new counselor of the State Accounts still talked about the plans and goals to fulfill when he occupies the post.

“To zero the processes that are pending trial and to zero our agenda by the end of the year, so that we can speed up the new accountability processes and generate, for the mayors and expense authorizers, the necessary tranquility to have their accounts judged as soon as they leave their posts,” he emphasized.

During the event, governor Wilson Lima praised the vast experience in public service, both in the Manaus City Hall and in the state government, of the new counselor. “Fabian is someone who has a vast experience in public service. He has already worked in the City Hall, in the State government, he is someone who has a great sensibility and balance”, said Lima.

The president of the TCE-AM, Érico Desterro, also pointed out the technical knowledge of Luis Fabian and confidence in the future work of the counselor.

“Now, the entry of a young counselor, Dr. Fabian, who comes to add, with his technical knowledge and management, to the collegiate of the Court of Auditors. I am sure that he will work with what the Court of Auditors has, which is very important: the external control of public administration”, he concluded.

Career and experience

The new counselor was ahead of the State Department of Education (Seduc) for more than two years, since when he took over on an interim basis, in 2019, when former secretary Luiz Castro resigned.

Luís Fabian holds a law degree from the Federal University of Amazonas (Ufam), specialized in Public Law and a master’s degree in State Law from the Federal University of Santa Catarina (UFSC), as well as a doctorate in Law from the Catholic University of Santa Fe in Argentina.
