Professor harassed in Ifam publishes letter of thanks; CENARIUM is mentioned

MANAUS – The professor Érica Mafra, teacher of the Federal Institute of Amazonas (Ifam-Campus Manaus), which denounced sexual harassment by a co-worker, occurred on September 25, 2020, read a letter of thanks to journalists and press outlets that have supported the cause of the teacher. The reading of the document happened during a meeting where the direction of Ifam charged explanation of students who participated in a protest act in support of the teacher, last week.

“I would like to thank the students’ initiative in promoting hard work by mobilising to provide support to the victims and clarify to the press the reasons for our denunciations. I thank the Federal Public Prosecutor’s Office (MPF), the Brazilian Bar Association (OAB), especially Dr. Lino Chíxaro, on the clarifications of the crime of prevarication…professor Caupolican Padilha, from the Human Rights Commission of the OAB…I thank the students…the BandNews Network…CENARIUM…”, highlighted Érica Mafra.

Network of support

At the end of the letter, Érica also thanked the support she has been receiving on social networks. “In particular, thanks to all the people who wrote messages of support and motivation, in social networks, also denouncing teachers of this institute. I did not expect this reaction, since in the last two years my work colleagues have harassed me. I regret that the director, person who I admired so much, have used bad faith … So that I lost legal deadline to file a lawsuit”, let down Erica Mafra.

On her condition as a whistleblower, she added: “I believe in Justice, in the work of the police, as well as in the support of society. Indignation moves us, we will not remain silent in the face of this crime that occurs within the walls of this institute. The investigation is confidential, as is the judicial process. I will not give any further details about the process. It is in Justice”, concluded Mafra.

Understanding the case

The English teacher Erica Mafra, the Federal Institute of Amazonas (Ifam), in Manaus, He used social networks on Friday, 11 November, to release a video in which he accused a coworker for sexual harassment on the premises of the institution. In the video, she told details of the approach she suffered on 25 September 2020, during the pandemic.

In the recording, Erica reports that, at the time, reported the case to the director of the Ifam Campus, in the Center, and “all superiors”. Mafra detailed that also took the case to the Federal Public Ministry (MPF) and the Bar Association of Brazil (OAB). In the recording, she accused the silence of the institution after the complaint brought to the rectory. The behavior of co-workers and managers caused indignation in the teacher.

Also during the video, Erica Mafra accused the rectory of the Campus Ifam Manaus Center to make little case on the matter. “Better look for the Attorney General’s Office to see if there is a need to open a process…”, reported the teacher.
