In Amazonas, governor reinforces public safety with the delivery of new vehicles and equipment

MANAUS – The governor of Amazonas, Mr. Wilson Lima (UB), held on the morning of Monday, 16, the first delivery of vehicles and equipment for the security forces of the State this year. There are 68 cars and motorcycles, five boats and 4 thousand items for use by professionals of the Military Police (PM-AM), Civil Police (PC-AM) and Military Fire Department of Amazonas.

The speedboats will assist in monitoring and combating international drug trafficking in the upper and middle Solimões region, besides the metropolitan region and the south of the state, where Operation Tomoiotatá, of permanent status, takes place. The vehicles will be used in intelligence actions and undercover service.

“These deliveries provide better working conditions for the professionals”, said Mr. Lima. The governor added that the shipment includes new models of equipment, such as machine guns and .40 pistols, to face the fire potential of criminals, and will also be used for the personal and family safety of the professionals, as determined by law passed in the state. “We changed all the weapons of the MP and PC. Everyone will use new work instruments”.

The holder of the Amazonas Secretary of Public Safety (SSP-AM), General Carlos Alberto Mansur, said that this equipment is intended for the program “Amazonas Mais Seguro”, launched in July 2021. “They are 850-cylinder BMWs that will provide better conditions for our military police to fight crime.”

In 2022, the Amazonas government delivered 13 times weapons and vehicles to the security agencies. The forecast is that five new speedboats will be made available in March of this year.

The governor highlighted that, in parallel to the investments in work structure, 50 approved in the last Military Police contest are already working at the Amazonas State Traffic Department (Detran). Other convoked are undergoing physical fitness tests.

Condolences to family members

During speech at the ceremony of delivery of vehicles and equipment, in Arena Amadeu Teixeira, south-central zone of Manaus, Mr. Lima paid condolences to family members of victims of the explosion that occurred in a shooting club in the neighborhood Ponta Negra, west zone of Manaus, on Sunday, 15.

“I appreciate the agile assistance of the Fire Department, in addition to the commitment of the security forces in support. The Civil Police is doing the investigation. We will continue working so that this situation does not happen again”, he emphasized.

Mr. Lima also commented on the articulation between the Executive Branch, the police, and the Army to avoid conflicts in the desmantling of supporters of former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL) who were gathered in front of the Amazon Military Command (CMA) to contest the result of the last election.

“We have had dialogue with all the agencies, especially the Army, since the occupations in front of the barracks began. I had conversations with General Furlan. He was very helpful and made himself available. Our understanding is that the demonstrations need to be respected, understanding the limits established by the Constitution. Here, in the state of Amazonas, we conducted them in the best way possible, avoiding conflicts. There was no shooting.”
