Senator of AM, Eduardo Braga wears a watch worth more than R$ 1 million and has repercussions on social networks

MANAUS – With a heritage of more than R$ 31 million in assets, declared in the race for the Government of Amazonas in the elections 2018, Senator Eduardo Braga (MDB) appeared in a publication on social networks displaying a Swiss brand watch Patek Philippe, valued at more than R$ 1, 263 million. The case came to light on Sunday, 20, after journalist Ronaldo Tiradentes shared the price of the parliamentary luxury item.

In the publication of the senator, December 10, 2021, Braga congratulates the Amazonian city of Uarini, which turned 40 years in 2021. The politician is photographed relaxed hugging a person, occasion in which the watch also stands out in the picture.

The sophisticated item, from one of the most expensive brands in the world, is the Aquanaut model, launched in 1997, according to Patric Philippe’s official website. On the internet, the imported accessory costs US$ 245,729, with the conversion of American currency (R$ 5.14, the dollar), the item becomes worth R$ 1,263,047.00.

The Aquanaut features, in addition to its modern appearance, a round octagon-shaped case, inspired by Nautilus, a large shell mollusk found in the Indo-Pacific.

According to the website that sells the accessory, the watch also sports a ‘tropical’ bracelet, made of a material that is ultra-resistant to wear and tear from salt water and ultraviolet radiation.

Former governor of Amazonas and former mayor of Manaus, Senator Eduardo Braga is a pre-candidate for the government in the 2022 elections and is considered one of the richest politicians in the state, according to official data.

According to the website of the Superior Electoral Court (TSE), the parliamentarian declared to have R$ 31,251,331.95 in assets, being more than R$ 800,000 in shares of banks, multinationals and state companies; and more than R$ 500,000 in land.

Celebrity brand

A brand founded in 1839 in the village of Plan-les-Quotes in the city of Geneva, Switzerland, by Polish Count Antoine Norbert de Patek and François Czapek, the watchmaker’s original name was “Patek, Czapek & Co.” The company only became “Patek Phillipe” in 1851, after François stepped down and Frenchman Jean Adrien Philippe joined the partnership.

Since the first years with the new identity, the brand was already worn by famous people, such as Queen Victoria (1837-1901) and her husband Prince Albert (1819-1961) of England. Among the celebrities who also have or have worn a Patek Philippe watch are Russian President Vladimir Putin, US actor Brad Pitt, and former Beatles Paul McCartney.

In 2012, before Brad Pitt married Angelina Jolie, he bought a Patek Philippe watch for $800,000 to give as a gift to his then-fiancée. In 2014, it was Angelina’s turn to present her beloved with the luxury item. The actress, however, spent R$7.5 million on the watch.

The CENARIUM sent a message via WhatsApp to the advisor of Senator Eduardo Braga, asking about the acquisition of the watch, but did not get a reply by the publication of this report.
