Civil Police arrest suspect in the death of Tabatinga councilman in AM

MANAUS – The Civil Police of Amazonas (PC-AM) arrested on the afternoon of Wednesday, 23, a man involved in the death of Tabatinga councilman (a 1.108 kilometres from Manaus), Olímpio Guedes Olavo Junior, of 33 years. The suspect was identified by police, so far, as Igor, 30 years. Two other men are being sought and more details about the arrest and investigation will be presented later on Thursday, 24.

The crime happened on 12 May this year, in Flores neighborhood, South-Central zone, when the victim was returning from a cafeteria. In the security camera video that recorded the murder, Junior appears getting out of a vehicle on the passenger side and going towards the driver. At this moment, a light-coloured car, which was passing by the location, makes a U-turn at the end of the street and returns towards the councillor. The victim tries to run away while the shots are being fired, but falls to the ground.

According to the Integrated Operations Centre (Ciops), the parliamentarian arrived driving to the Hospital and Emergency Room of August 28th, in Adrianópolis, south-central zone, but had complications, not withstanding his injuries and died in the health unit.

Attacks

The crime was not the first attempt that the councilman suffered. On 7 September 2021, Olimpio Guedes also suffered a shooting attack on Avenida Cosme Ferreira, Coroado neighborhood, East zone of Manaus. At the time, he was hit with a shot in the arm and said that six shots were made by criminals.

Investigation

The councilman was one of the targets of Operation Aquila, of the Federal Police, which investigated a criminal organization specialized in drug trafficking between the cities of Manaus and Tabatinga. The action took place in October 2020 and fulfilled 15 warrants, being five of arrest and ten of search and seizure.

The federal investigation began after two people were arrested in flagrante, in May that year, the airfield Flores, after landing with small plane from Tabatinga, carrying about 130 kilos of narcotics.
