Founded in 1966, Maximino Corrêa Municipal Market will be reformed by Manaus City Hall

MANAUS – Part of the history of the neighborhood Praça 14 de Janeiro, one of the oldest of the Amazon capital, the Maximino Corrêa Municipal Market, located at Rua Emílio Moreira, South Zone, will be revitalized by the Manaus City Hall.

The work is part of the reform package in 35 fairs and markets in the city, announced by the mayor of Manaus, David Almeida, and held in partnership with the Government of Amazonas. This is the 25th work to be started by the Municipal Department of Agriculture, Supply, Center and Informal Trade (Semacc).

“The neighborhood [Square 14] makes anniversary in January, but we anticipate the gift”, said the mayor, during the ceremony of signing the service order of reform of the Maximino Corrêa Market.

Also according David Almeida, the goal is to bring dignity and create opportunities for marketers of Manaus. “Besides the reform, we will offer the exchange of equipment, as exhibitors, refrigerators and others”, he said, announcing also the registration of market traders in the program “Entrepreneur Aid”.

As the Municipal Secretary of Agriculture, Supply, Center and Informal Trade (Semacc), Wanderson Costa, the entire structural part of the market will be renovated and the amount for the services is R$ 517 thousand.

Altogether, the agreement signed between the City Hall and the State Government to reform fairs and markets in the capital should invest the amount of R$ 25 million, contemplating 35 spaces.

About the market

The Maximino Corrêa Municipal Market was founded in 1966, has 559 square meters and serves 51 direct permission holders, distributed in 39 boxes and 12 stalls. Its last renovation was in 2015, seven years ago. The space generates 70 direct jobs and more than 300 indirect jobs.

The works in place will include improvements in the metallic structure of the building, coverage, walls, floor, in the frames and electrical installations, drainage, renovation of bathrooms with equipment exchange, internal and external painting, visual communication, among other services.
