MANAUS – Since he left Brazil, on December 30, before the inauguration of president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT), the “friendship” between former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL) and the fighter from Amazonas José Aldo has echoed in the national press.

This is because the athlete is hosting the former ruler in his home in Florida, in the United States, and information has it that Bolsonaro plans to go live in Italy and not return to Brazil.

José Aldo is a supporter of Bolsonaro and, moreover, closed contracts with the government during his term. At least that’s what shows UOL investigation pointing that Ministry of Citizenship of Bolsonaro Government signed an agreement worth R$ 200 thousand with the JAJ Institute shortly after the first round of the 2022 elections.

The information was published in the Transparency Portal. (See below)

Trip to USA

The fighter’s home is in a gated community in the city of Kissimmee. After arriving in the country, Bolsonaro published a video walking through an establishment of the supermarket chain Publix and waves to supporters. In the publication there are no details about when the video was filmed.

The former president also appeared in a publication by real estate businessman Cristiano Piquet on social networks. In the video, the politician commented on the achievements of the former government, lamented the outcome of the 2022 presidential elections and said he was rooting for Brazil.

“Unfortunately what everyone knows happened and we ask God to bless our Brazil and that it is really a country not only of hope, but a country that presents something concrete for its people who deserve to be happy”, he said, adding that he “did everything right”.

The Bolsonaro trip has entered the crosshairs of the Court of Auditors (TCU), who chose the Minister Walton Alencar Rodrigues as rapporteur of the request to investigate the trip to the United States. In the representation to the TCU, federal lawmaker Elias Vaz (PSB-GO) questioned the fact that Bolsonaro had travelled in a Brazilian Air Force plane (FAB) for a personal agenda.

Return to Brazil

According to reports by IstoÉ journalist Leandro Mazzini, Jair Bolsonaro does not want to return to Brazil and the “shameful” flight to the United States is part of a plan to protect against possible arrest. The matter, according to Mazzini, is still being handled confidentially, but he and his wife and youngest daughter are asking the Italian Embassy in Brasilia to expedite the issue of Italian citizenship.

The journalist also says that for Jair Bolsonaro it is only a matter of a short time before Federal Supreme Court (STF) Minister Alexandre de Moraes – or a judge, when the cases to which he is answerable “descend” to the first instance – issues a warrant for his arrest in one of the cases in which he is involved.

Mazzini also explains Bolsonaro’s escape plan. “In the US, he can hide for a while and evade Brazilian justice, but he runs the risk of the FBI [the US federal police] and the PF [Brazilian Federal Police] knocking on his door and returning handcuffed to Brazil in the event of an eventual warrant. But if he goes to Rome in time, with citizenship, he will not return, since the European country does not have an extradition treaty”, he says.
