MANAUS – The Secretary of Health of the Amazon, Anoar Samad, said on Thursday, 10, that the state is preparing for a new wave of Covid-19, with an increase in cases and hospitalizations as a result of the disease in the next 60 to 80 days. He also declared that this will be the third wave only this year.

In the message released, the secretary stated that the increase is occurring in the same period that happened at the end of last year, when flu and coronavirus “ran together”, and stated that the state’s contingency plan has already been updated.

“We have already updated our contingency plan with the certainty that the need for isolation beds and specific cuts for the two conditions will increase and require again a reorganization of the units of our entire health system”, he said.

Secretary Anoar Samad also raised awareness about the need to be vaccinated against coronavirus and reminded that the best time to be vaccinated against a disease is when it is not circulating with intensity.

“Therefore, I make a new appeal to the entire population: update your vaccination schedule, we have more than a million Amazonians who have not completed their doses. Don’t wait for things to get worse to rush all at once to the vaccination posts as happened last year”, he concluded.
